Why I Don't Use Hashtags on My Videos
By YzeUpdates
Banned hashtags can silently kill your video performance without you realizing!
The Hidden Danger of Hashtags
Many creators don't realize that some hashtags are actually banned or marked as spam by social media platforms. When you use these hashtags, your content can be penalized by the algorithm without any clear warning or notification.
Key Insight
Your page can start behaving as if you have violations when it's actually fine - all because of the hashtags you're using.
How Banned Hashtags Hurt Your Performance
When you use banned or spam hashtags:
- Your algorithm reach drops significantly
- Views decrease dramatically
- Earnings from content can plummet
- You may receive spam violations for perfectly good content
- Your account may be shadowbanned without explanation
Critical: Many creators don't realize their content is being penalized because of hashtags, not because of the actual content quality.
My Hashtag Strategy
Here's why I avoid most hashtags and what I recommend instead:
What I Avoid
- Popular but potentially banned hashtags
- Overused spammy hashtags
- Too many hashtags (more than 3-5)
- Trending hashtags unrelated to my content
What I Do Instead
- Use 1-3 highly relevant hashtags
- Create branded hashtags
- Focus on caption quality over hashtags
- Engage with my audience directly
How to Check for Banned Hashtags
Before using any hashtag:
- Search the hashtag on the platform - if few results show up, it may be banned
- Check if the hashtag has recent posts - old posts only is a red flag
- Look for warning messages when clicking the hashtag
- Use third-party tools like Display Purposes to check hashtag status
